Sun shines for new Fairlady

AFTER an extensive search for a vibrant and young person who dreams of working for a glossy magazine like Fairlady, Sunshine Shibambo of Soweto emerged as the winner.

The 27-year-old was named the Fairlady style intern on Friday last week after impressing the judges, Fairlady editor Suzy Brokensha and wellness editor Shannon Smith.

Shibambo walked away with a coveted six-month paid intern position at Fairlady. She also received a fabulous new wardrobe, a laptop and a BlackBerry.

Fairlady editor Brokensha says: "Twenty vibey, original, interesting people arrived at our offices. Their incredible confidence and self-assurance made all the finalists stand out, but we were looking for someone who can stand out and fit in at the same time."

Shibambo says: "At the moment I am still feeling numb. When we were at the Fairlady offices we had zero interaction with the staff but now I am going to be part of them and that makes me feel so great. I am just a bit anxious about how it's going to be as an intern."

The magazine was looking for a new intern with a flair for fashion, an eye for beauty and a person who could make things happen in the magazine business.

Twenty hopefuls were invited for an interview, but six out of the 20 made the short list. The six were tested in skills such as the importance of character, passion, teamwork and meeting deadlines.

The whole process was flighted on M-Net Series on Fridays.

M-Net Series channel manager Khosi Khanyile says: 'The series is a fabulous example of what our channels have become known for: great reality programmes. Style intern is a fun-filled journey that gives our viewers an insider's peek into the hectic world of magazines and publishing."
