Sedibe settles issue of bonuses

IT APPEARS the problem that often crops up in the Bafana Bafana camp when they take part in major tournaments has been sidestepped by swift action from Safa.

Safa chief executive Leslie Sedibe has given his word that there will be no major issues concerning player incentives during this World Cup.

Sedibe made this assertion just days before the tournament kicks off, giving the assurance that unlike in the past, the issue will not rear its ugly head before the World Cup starts on June 11.

"I am pleased to inform you that we have reached an agreement with the players," Sedibe said, without revealing how much the players will get.

In the past, no tournament would pass without incident. There would be threats and counter-threats from both parties, as players threatened to go on strike because of bonuses, while Safa labelled the players as greedy. The governing body seems to have learnt from that experience.

Just recently, Safa was reported to have offered the players R1million to share among themselves for every goal they score in the tournament.
