'REOPEN COLLEGE IN GIYANI'

THE ANC Youth League in the Giyani subregion has called on the education department to reopen the Giyani College of Education.

THE ANC Youth League in the Giyani subregion has called on the education department to reopen the Giyani College of Education.

The youth body said the re-opening of the college would help poor students who had dropped out of school.

The ANCYL also wants the government to set up a branch of a university in Giyani.

The league said its call was in response to the large number of students who drop out because of poverty.

Sub-regional chairperson of the league Sydwell Mabunda said these were among resolutions taken at the league's fourth congress at the Khomisani Primary School in Dzingidzingi village outside Giyani recently.

He said the college building was used as offices and homes .

He said there were many families around Giyani who could not afford residence fees at tertiary institutions and if the college were reopened students could simply walk to the college.

Mabunda said the ANCYL also wanted youth representation in the Greater Giyani municipality.

"We call on the ANC to act decisively against people in government who abuse state power and resources," Mabunda said.

Department spokesperson Pat Kgomo could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
