Mokoena collected his 100th cap for Bafana after first making his debut against neighbouring Botswana in the Cosafa Castle Cup back in 1999 in Gaborone, where Bafana won 2-1. Sportswear manufacturers Nike topped it off when they gave him a pair of personalised boots with the South African flag, his nickname and the number 100.
Nike South Africa's communications manager Seruscka Naidoo said they were happy to be associated with the Bafana skipper.
"We handed him the boots on Sunday and he was very happy that we acknowledged his achievements," Naidoo said. "We have a very long-standing relationship with him. He is a great athlete and a fantastic captain and we would like to celebrate with him."
Mokoena first used the same model of boots on Thursday in Bafana's 2-1 win over Colombia in an international friendly at Soccer City, but wore the personalised ones last night.
"It is a milestone for him to reach 100 caps for Bafana and we are happy to be celebrating with him."
Carlos Alberto Parreira's charges will take on Denmark at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday in their last friendly match before they kick off their Group A campaign of the World Cup against Mexico on June 11.
Bafana have also been pitted against 1998 winners France and Uruguay.
Bafana engage Uruguay at Loftus Stadium on June 16, before wrapping up their group matches against France in Bloemfontein six days later.
