LIMPOPO police have arrested one of the most wanted housebreaking kingpins in the Flora Park suburb of Tzaneen at the weekend.

He was arrested by policemen on patrol, who spotted him walking in the street carrying suspicious luggage wrapped in a sheet.

The man is alleged to be from Taulome village in Bolobedu, north of Tzaneen. He was arrested after allegedly entering a policeman's house at 8 Alvein Street in the upmarket suburb. It is alleged that he used a knife to open a sliding door and stole bed sheets and a new pair of shoes.

Police spokesperson Captain Simon Shikwambana said after the man was arrested it was established that he was linked to seven other counts of housebreaking and theft in which goods worth more than R50 000 were stolen.

Shikwambana said among the goods the man allegedly stole were curtains, sheets, DVD players, laptops and wheelbarrows.

He allegedly targeted houses in various suburbs, including Flora Park, Medi Park and Arbor Park in the town.

It is alleged that the goods were sold cheaply at taxi ranks in the Tzaneen CBD each morning after the suspect broke into homes.

The man is expected to appear in the Tzaneen magistrate's court soon. - Michael Sakuneka
