AT LEAST 21 Thai women, thought to be victims of human smuggling, were rescued from a pub in Kempton Park, Gauteng police said yesterday.

Captain Paul Ramaloko said the women were rescued early on Saturday by the Hawks and a tactical response team.

"The alleged trafficked victims are aged between 23 and 27. Police also recovered a substantial amount of cash including foreign currencies, a small pack of heroin and passports."

Two people, both in their late 30s, were taken in for questioning.

"One has since been released, while the other has been charged for running a brothel. More arrests are expected," Ramaloko said.
