Residents of Malunga Street in White City Jabavu have painted their street with all the World Cup fever material and every household has a flag flying at its gate.
The paintings run for over 500 metres and still go on.
Over a week ago Vusi Tshabalala, 31, and nine other youths living in the street decided to do something about the tournament.
"We saw that we could not afford to buy the tickets for games, so we decided to create our own hype atmosphere in our street.
"We asked each household to contribute R10 for the paint and then we painted the street," Tshabalala said.
Painted on the street floor is Zakumi, the World Cup trophy, South African flag, soccer balls, vuvuzelas and the opening fixture against Mexico.
At the gate of every house is a rock painted like a soccer ball.
Even the highest tree in the street has flags, vuvuzelas and soccer balls hanging on it.
"We will be closing the street on June 10 for our own braai and celebration," he said.
Tshabalala said during the tournament a data projector would show the game live at the tavern in the street corner.
"We have organised fireworks for the opening game so that we can celebrate the start of the World Cup," he said.
