A dream school for McCathy Primary

MCCATHY Primary School in Pietermaritzburg has finally received a new school to be proud of after a seven-year long wait for teachers and pupils.

On Friday the provincial department of education delivered on its promise by handing over a school worth R15 million.

The old tin classrooms had leaking roofs, were overcrowded, blazingly hot in summer and extremely cold in winter.

Khethiwe Ndlela, who has been a principal at the school since 1984, received the keys to her brand new school and said the double storey building with 24 brand new classrooms, administration block, tuckshop, media centre, and toilet block was more than what she had dreamt of. "It is like a dream,"she said. "This new school is really going to boost the teachers and pupils' confidence and love for teaching and learning," said Ndlela.

Sihle Mlotshwa, KZN department of education spokesperson, said the delay in delivering the school was because of the fact that contractors had been changed during the building process.
