More World Cup tickets on sale
MORE World Cup tickets will go on sale today. Fifa is releasing 160523 tickets, 800 of which are for the final on July 11.
This was announced at Ellis Park Stadium yesterday when the stadium was officially handed over to Fifa. These tickets will be available from Fifa.com, call centre number 083-123, ticketing centres, FNB branches and Shoprite/Checkers.
Local organising committee CEO Danny Jordaan appealed to fans to keep the noise levels down during the singing of national anthems as well as during important announcements. "When we sing the national anthem, it must have the ambience and respect it deserves," Jordaan said.
Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke said the soccer body was considering giving free earplugs to fans. "We are investigating some legal issues after we got concerns from people (about the noise)."
Jordaan said if one incident of violence involving a vuvuzela occurred, they would ban it.
On security for the teams, Jordaan said both Australian and Brazilian teams - the first teams to arrive - were happy, and that their arrival was handled efficiently .
On the cost of tickets, Jordaan said: "This is a world event, and there should be consistency in price. We don't want to create the impression that this World Cup is less important than the others."
The stadium hosts its first match on June 12 - a match between Nigeria and Argentina.
