THE SACP and Cosatu are fuming over claims that chief the executive officer of Ithala Bank got away with a "slap on the wrist" concerning procurement irregularities totalling R169million.

They are calling for a full-blown forensic investigation by the Auditor-General and the immediate suspension of Sipho Shabalala.

The two were reacting to KwaZulu-Natal's MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Mike Mabuyakhulu's decision to slap Shabalala with a written warning earlier this month.

Shabalala awarded a multi-million tender to Bhombe Chithey' Consulting Projects for the widely publicised Dolphin Whispers project that failed.
