More than 6500 local performing artists will be given an opportunity to entertain football fans at the PVAs in 10 districts in the province.
The performers include 160 established KZN artists, 80 comedians, 160 poets, 80 community radio DJs and 320 visual artists.
Speaking in Durban yesterday, Ina Cronjé, the MEC for finance and acting MEC for economic development and tourism, said the aim of the programme was to ensure that "when we draw the curtain on the biggest sporting spectacle on earth, all of us will have experienced the excitement of the World Cup, irrespective of whether we are in urban or rural areas of the province.
"More importantly, the programme is also part of KwaZulu-Natal's 2010 economic growth strategy," she said.
