This was evident when BSA acting chief executive Loyiso Mtya presented eight national champions with upgraded belts. The champions should have received them a long time ago.
In fact that happens the week after a boxer wins a championship, but the governing body's shoestring budget put the brakes on making the belts.
Mtya, who presented belts to seven male, two female and one former world female champion yesterday, said BSA was on the road to recovery financially.
"That is why we were able to pay R96000 for manufacturing of these belts that you see today. I can safely say that we have turned our fortunes around for the better," he said.
The ceremony took place in the boxing gym of trainer Imran Khan in Maraisburg. "I want to commend all these champions and the others in other provinces for being patient.
"They could have easily gone to the media and but they understood our financial situation. There is nothing as disturbing as not being in possession of something that you rightly own. These champions will now have something to show for their commitments even when they are no longer at the helm."
Mtya also paid tribute to provincial governments that made it possible for promoters to include one female bout in every tournament they staged.
"The plan worked - hence the country now has its first female world champion in Noni Tenge. We also have two national and one international champions," Mtya said.
The men crowned yesterday included Klaas Mboyane, Tshepo Mashego, Rupert van Aswegen, Sipho Taliwe and Tshepang Mohale.
