Bash for Mhlongo

MUSIC legend Busi Mhlongo continues her brave fight against cancer but her condition has taken a turn for the worse.

MUSIC legend Busi Mhlongo continues her brave fight against cancer but her condition has taken a turn for the worse.

Yesterday close friend and manager Niel Comfort said Mhlongo's condition was "serious" and she did not want to be disturbed.

"She is in a lot of pain, she has not slept well in days and last night it was worse," Comfort said.

He said Mhlongo was not in a condition to see any visitors and was getting a lot of rest.

"She is really battling. I was supposed to take her to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital today (Thursday) but she was too tired."

Mhlongo has been battling with cancer for several years now and the South African music community will on Sunday pay tribute to her in a concert billed Behind the Legend at the Durban Playhouse Opera Theatre.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Sibongile Khumalo, Judith Sephuma, Thandi Klassen, Abigail Kubeka, Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, Salaelo Selota, Deborah Fraser, Thembisile Ntaka, Madala Kunene, Zonke, Zamajobe, Camagwini and Nhlanhla, among others, will perform and pray for Mhlongo's speedy recovery.

Comfort said: "It does not look like she will be attending the concert. However, she is very humbled by the love shown by other musicians and she hopes that everything goes well on Sunday," he said.

Sibongiseni Shabalala said they are honoured to be part of a tribute to such a legend.

"She helped us a lot with our music and we learnt a lot from her, now in her time of need we are honoured to offer a helping hand," Shabalala said.
