A SENIOR Free State municipal official and her husband yesterday appeared in the Wepener magistrate's court in connection with the murder of the Naledi municipality's mayor.

A SENIOR Free State municipal official and her husband yesterday appeared in the Wepener magistrate's court in connection with the murder of the Naledi municipality's mayor.

Naledi director for corporate services Caroline Mokhothu, 43, and husband James Mokhothu, 34, each faced a charge of murder.

Magistrate C Mogotho postponed the matter to June 8 for a formal bail application.

ANC mayor Motlatsi Motloi, 32, was shot dead in front of his house in Wepener on May 3.

The Naledi municipality has been rocked by in-fighting between councillors, municipal officials and workers since 2006. - Sapa
