Mabuza lauds Mpumalanga

WITH only 14 days to go before the 2010 Fifa World Cup, Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza has declared that the province will contribute to the success of the tournament.

WITH only 14 days to go before the 2010 Fifa World Cup, Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza has declared that the province will contribute to the success of the tournament.

This comes after Mpumalanga hosted two international competitions, including the friendly between Bafana Bafana and Thailand. The province also hosted the Mpumalanga International Premier's Cup.

Mpumalanga Black Aces were crowned winners of the Premier's Cup after beating Orlando Pirates.

"We have to commend the people of Mpumalanga. They displayed their passion for the game not once but twice within a short time," Mabuza said. "This was not the first time, as they have proved with other international tournaments we have hosted in the past, like the Cosafa Cup.

"Mpumalanga people came out in droves on the day of one of the biggest knockout competitions, the Nedbank Cup final at Soccer City. If you take other important events into account - like the Super 14 semifinal at Orlando Stadium on the same day and the UEFA Champions League - the message is clear.

"We are ready to welcome the world in this magnificent province.

"One of the best soccer players in the world, who happens to be an African, Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast, will also be seen in action here in Mpumalanga."

Mpumalanga's Mbombela Stadium will host four World Cup matches, one of which will feature reigning world champions Italy.

Other countries who will play at Mbombela Stadium are Ivory Coast, Honduras, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Serbia and North Korea.
