2010 rubs off on Vardos gig

VARDOS Restaurant and B&B in Mapetla, Soweto, will resemble both a soccer stadium and jazz village - and those invited to the Life@40'nBeyond gig on Friday have been asked to wear Bafana jerseys in the spirit of the World Cup.

VARDOS Restaurant and B&B in Mapetla, Soweto, will resemble both a soccer stadium and jazz village - and those invited to the Life@40'nBeyond gig on Friday have been asked to wear Bafana jerseys in the spirit of the World Cup.

They are also expected to blow their vuvuzelas in between performances.

The lifestyle gig, which is open to those aged 40 and above, but who may be accompanied by younger friends, will also feature soul jazz music from the Complete Jazz Band.

The Complete Jazz Band are a sleek group of young musicians who are increasingly proving hot to handle in the music industry because of their smooth sound and stagecraft.

I watched this band perform with Hugh Masekela and Sibongile Khumalo in the musical Songs of Migration at the Market Theatre early this year.

Their performance moved many a jazz fan. They were actually a revelation to watch. Their music is spiritual, mature and crosses cultural, racial and class barriers.

Organised by House of Zodiac Promotions, this will be Life@40'nBeyond's fifth session. After Complete Jazz Band's performance, DJ Zee'Duma-Mo will take over.

The gig starts at 2pm.
