Ka Plaatjie link to PAC goes against the grain

THE insinuation of the introduction in journalist Zukile Majova's article that appeared in Sowetan yesterday is dangerous, to say the least. The headline reads: "Ka Plaatjie joins ANC".

We do not have a problem with the headline but it should be remembered that the very same Ka Plaatjie had recently resigned from the Pan Africanist Movement, which contested the 2009 general elections. The PAC had even protested against the use of PAM for an electoral party.

But, alas, the introduction in the Sowetan story reads: "Former PAC general secretary Thami ka Plaatjie has joined the ANC." This goes against the grain of the hierarchy of a good story. Here we are talking about a former president of a movement that contested the elections.

Surely the fact that Ka Plaatjie was general secretary of the PAC should be secondary.

In fact, the linking of the joining of the ANC by Ka Plaatjie with the PAC leaves much to be desired. For the record, it is the PAC that introduced the term non-racialism in the lexicon of our country's politics.
