COPS ARREST FLEEING LOVER

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the decomposing body of a woman found at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi.

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the decomposing body of a woman found at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi.

"Police arrested the man believed to be the woman's boyfriend in Umlazi on Monday," Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge of the KwaZulu-Natal police said yesterday.

Police caught the man while he was trying to flee to Johannesburg.

A murder case was opened after the woman's body was discovered on Monday last week, Mdunge said.

The body was found covered in a blanket in the toilets of the hospital hall.

Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo visited the hospital last week and said it was unclear how the body ended up there.

On Monday, it was reported that some people believed to be relatives of the woman were undergoing DNA tests.

Mdunge said the situation had become confusing as some people claimed to be the woman's relatives while others thought to be members of her family denied it.

Mdunge said the identification process involving the family started last week.

In January it was reported that the body of a baby had gone missing from the hospital's mortuary. Hospital staff said they did not know what had happened to it. Four people were being investigated over the disappearance. - Sapa
