Nasty jinx at SABC

THERE is a hoodoo that is enjoying itself immensely at the SABC. One of the numerous sacked CEOs must have put a nasty jinx on the building and its employees.

THERE is a hoodoo that is enjoying itself immensely at the SABC. One of the numerous sacked CEOs must have put a nasty jinx on the building and its employees.

How else are we to understand the latest faux pas involving poor Phil Molefe.

One morning Phil was promoted to head of news up at the hill. The next morning he woke up to find it had all been a joke - a bad dream.

The new chairman of the SABC, Ben Ngubane, appointed poor Phil without consulting the rest of the board. Why he acted on his own is a mystery. The board members lost no time howling that the appointment had been unprocedural.

Does this mean Ngubane has dictatorial tendencies that are coming to the fore now that he has a gavel in his fist?

Phil is the perennial bridesmaid who has acted as head of news each time there was a vacancy. The post has eluded him since he has often been kicked from one post to the other as factions within the SABC vie for power.

When the new board was appointed experts gushed about a fresh wind blowing in the corridors. We were assured corruption, fraud, nepotism and mismanagement were a thing of the past. Instead a huge boo boo happened when the new CEO celebrated his first 100 days in office.

It is ironic that the SABC is the subject of news broadcasts instead of merely reporting the news. It would not surprise us if one day a thinly veiled soapie of the goings on is flighted on our screens.
