MEC sorry after road accident death

MPUMALANGA MEC for public works, roads and transport, Clifford Mkasi says the road accident in which a man was knocked down and killed by the car in which he was travelling was "very unfortunate".

MPUMALANGA MEC for public works, roads and transport, Clifford Mkasi says the road accident in which a man was knocked down and killed by the car in which he was travelling was "very unfortunate".

Mkasi was a passenger in a vehicle driven by one of his bodyguards when a man was knocked down and killed when he attempted to cross the busy N4 near Malelane on Friday afternoon.

The MEC said during a media breakfast at Emnotweni Sun in Nelspruit yesterday that when the accident happened, he was coming from the planning of the ANC's Imvuselelo campaign that took place in Nkomazi on Sunday.

"It was a very unfortunate accident. I send my condolences to the family of the victim. I'm also giving a message of support to my driver, who was deeply traumatised after the accident," Mkasi said.

During the same media breakfast, Mkasi said that several roads in the province would get pedestrian bridges to help pedestrians cross over in order to prevent accidents.
