Safa to ring changes at special meet

VETERAN soccer administrator Veli Mahlangu is set to make a dramatic return to the South African Football Association's national executive committee.

VETERAN soccer administrator Veli Mahlangu is set to make a dramatic return to the South African Football Association's national executive committee.

This is expected to happen during a special general meeting of Safa in Sandton on June 3 where the constitution will be amended.

Mahlangu is currently serving as Mbombela Stadium 2010 World Cup manager. He served on the executive under Stix Morewa and Molefi Oliphant.

A former Witbank Black Aces chairperson, Mahlangu also served as Safa's technical committee convenor, which was responsible for the appointment of coaches.

The other soccer officials who are set to join the national executive of Safa include Abel "The Lip" Rakoma and Johnson Kula.

At the same gathering, Safa structures will create the position of a third vice president expected to be filled by Local Orgainsing Commitee CEO Danny Jordaan.

The country's soccer governing body has two elected vice presidents - Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko and Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana.

The third Safa vice president is Irvin Khoza by secondment of the Premier Soccer League.

In line with a decision taken by the Football Transformation Forum, each of the nine provinces will increase the representatives from one to two.

Meanwhile, former Safa executive member, Lindile "Ace" Kika, has joined Safa as an administration manager and will also be assisting Bafana Bafana.

Also back at Safa is Solly "Magic Sol" Phasha.

Gugu Marawa, the assistant to suspended Bafana Bafana manager Sipho Nkumane, is also expected to be suspended this week.
