Pupils get WC tickets

ABOUT thirty-five pupils from the Deeside Combined School at Letsiteke outside Tzaneen, Limpopo will watch a Fifa World Cup match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane next month.

Headmaster Billy Eastman bought them tickets to watch Paraguay and New Zealand.

Eastman, a confessed staunch rugby fan, said he did not want the children to miss the World Cup because it is an opportunity of a lifetime.

"I took a decision to do something for the kids so that they would be able to remember this biggest event on the globe," said Eastman whose school has 450 pupils.

Eastman said the kids would be accompanied by their teachers to watch their favourite sport.

Pupils who spoke to Sowetan after receiving the tickets said Eastman is one of the best and friendliest people in the area.

They said they were excited although they did not get tickets for any of the Bafana Bafana matches. "Our names will be among those who witnessed history by attending a game in the first Fifa World Cup on the African continent."
