DOCTOR Brenda Beukman of the Walter Sisulu University criminology department said it was very strange that a serial killer like Sipho Dube was willing to have a face-to-face interview with the media.

"I have not come across any study on this sort of thing but a trend seems to have emerged," Beukman said.

"In the United States there has been several cases of serial killers giving the most horrific accounts of their crimes.

"The offender actually welcomes the attention of the media after conviction.

"They appear to like the status of being labelled 'serial killer' and the limelight that comes with that,"

While she was not familiar with Dube's case and circumstances surrounding it, she said it was possible that he was also a publicity monger desperate for attention.
