A 23-year-old man was shot and killed after a fight between a group of men outside a tavern in Engcobo, Eastern Cape police said yesterday.

"Five men were arguing outside the tavern when one of them went inside and returned with a firearm," said Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela.

"He then shot the 23-year-old, killing him instantly. A case of murder has been opened. No arrests have been made."

Meanwhile, Fatyela said four other men were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of a member of the Mthatha community policing forum on Saturday.

"This brings to nine the number of men arrested," he said.

The nine suspects are expected to appear in the Ngqeleni magistrate's today. - Sapa
