This iconic band, which has a string of number one hits, needs no introduction to South African audiences.
Many South Africans who grew up in the 1980s and early 1990s will remember the group performing the Eddie Grant anti-apartheid song, Give Me Hope Jo'anna, and various other Afro-Pop songs at live events around the country.
After their massive success with cover albums that contained such hits as I don't want to dance and others, the band became a household name. Dr Victor went on to record his own songs as a solo artist, including Cooks and Tumbai.
In 1994 he released his One Goal, One Wish album. of which Shambala became the South African Music Award (Sama) single of the year. His talent was spotted by Peter Stuyvesant promoters and he got the opening act slot for internationals acts such as Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Gloria Estefan and Janet Jackson.
After a six-year relationship with CSR Records he moved to Gallo Records, where he released a live studio album called Faya with favourites like Tsoang Tsoang Tsoang and Kalimba.
His 2000 album Stress was nominated for the 2001 Sama for the Best Adult Contemporary Album.
