MOTHER OF ALL PARTIES

THE Johannesburg Tourism Company is throwing the mother of all parties in celebration of the 20-day countdown to the World Cup.

THE Johannesburg Tourism Company is throwing the mother of all parties in celebration of the 20-day countdown to the World Cup.

The event will take place in Vilakazi Street in Orlando West in Soweto tomorrow and is open to the public.

JTC chief executive Lindiwe Kwele said the party will show people across the country that the City of Johannesburg is geared up, ready and waiting to show all the tourists "a great time in the city that we love".

"We want to leverage off the event to capture non-traditional source markets and sustain them as repeat visitors," Kwele said.

"We also aim to influence industry players to contribute towards service excellence and memorable experiences in Johannesburg. The party will also give us the opportunity to reveal our new and fabulous Joburg Rocks campaign."

The campaign was launched early this month. The aim of the initiative is to position Johannesburg as a leading lifestyle destination with plenty to offer.

There will be live performances by some of our favourite local artists at the party.

Entertainment will include the diski dancers who will teach everyone the official dance for the World Cup.

Explaining why it is important for everyone to learn the diski dance, Roshene Singh, chief marketing officer at South African Tourism, said the dance has caught the imagination of a football loving world.

"They are excited about it. Just about everybody overseas is doing the dance. As a South African it will be good to be able to show them how it is done," she said.
