The event takes place in Johannesburg tomorrow.
The Miriam Tlali Reading and Book Club is a legacy project of the awards, which is a nation-building partnerships project of wRite Associates, Nutrend Publishers, Sowetan , the Department of Arts and Culture and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.
Taking place at 2pm the African Literature Bookshop at 191 Louis Botha Avenue - off 8th Street - in Orange Grove, the event will be divided into two parts.
In the kiddies' session, artist Sindiswa Seakhoa and Tlali will read and tell stories to children.
South Africa is suffering a dearth of black writers of children's stories. Emerging author Fanta Jabbie, samples of whose work is published by Imisebe, is filling that gap .
Jabbie has taken the Barbie phenomenon head-on with a proudly African punch through stories such asA Tale of a Xhosa Princess, A Tale of a Zulu Princess, A Tale of a Sotho Princess, A Tale of a Pedi Princess, A Tale of a Swazi Princess and A Tale of a Tswana Princess.
Tlali will also share the stage with Zodwa Motsa and Siphiwo Mahala in a session titled Africa Day: Writers, Artists and Cultural Workers as Midwives to Africa's Rebirth.
The commemoration of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) celebrates African unity, as declared in a unique charter that was signed on May 25 1963 by 30 independent states.
The OAU, now the AU, is an intergovernmental organisation of 53 African states.
The Miriam Tlali Reading and Book Club invites writers, readers and the general public to discuss books and literary issues and to take part in other interactive platforms to promote the culture of writing and reading.
The club is also calling for people to donate books that can be sent to 74 Mimosa Road, Randpark Ridge.
