SOCCER fans around Polokwane will have the opportunity to watch Bafana Bafana's 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning players and other soccer legends in action at Seshego Stadium on Sunday at 1pm.

The players include Doctor Khumalo, Philemon "Chippa" Masinga, Mark Williams, Edward "Ma-Gents" Motale, Jerry "Legs of Thunder" Skhosana, Helman "Midnight Express" Mkhalele and Donald "Ace" Khuse, who will be up against ex-professional players from Limpopo.

Limpopo province will be represented by the likes of Andries "Local is Lekker" Sebola, Gerald "Mgababa" Raphahlela, Mike "Laduma" Rapatsa, Sydney Mochikaro and Kgasago Banda, among others.

The match is part of Limpopo's Africa Day celebrations organised by the provincial department of sports, arts and culture.

Khumalo told Sowetan yesterday that all the players were looking forward to displaying their skills in front of Limpopo soccer fans on Sunday.

"The match will be all about having fun and bringing enjoyment to the people of Limpopo," Khumalo said.

"We will also use the match to encourage youngsters from around Seshego to work hard on their football careers as we are their role models."

Departmental spokesperson Adel van der Linde said the event will be used to drum up awareness of the World Cup.

"As we are a few days from the kickoff of the World Cup, we see the celebrations and the match as fitting, not only to celebrate Africa Day but also the historic event that will be staged for the first time in Africa. We are proud that it will be staged in our country," said Van der Linde.

The match will be a curtain-raiser for the Sasol League national championship final.
