DETROIT Ladies are favourites to defend their Sasol League national championship title after their blistering display in the opening matches of the event, currently under way at Seshego Stadium.

The Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga, side scored a staggering 12 goals in their opening two matches of Group A against Crusaders and last year's runners-up, Durban Ladies.

Today at 4pm they face City Ladies in the last match of the group stages and their performances suggest that they could easily brush aside the battling Eastern Cape side.

A win will see Detroit, who played Cape Town Roses late yesterday, through to the semifinals of the tournament tomorrow.

Durban Ladies are also tipped to reach the semifinals.

Another exciting battle is confirmed today when Palace Super Falcons of Gauteng and North West's Halellujah Zebra Force meet in a top-of-the-table clash that will decide the winners of Group B. Kickoff is at 2pm.

The group's strugglers - Ma-Indies and Bloemfontein Celtic - meet in another match that will also start at 2pm today.

Ma-Indies have disappointed their supporters, who were convinced the Limpopo champions would win the tournament at home, which just goes to show that playing at home is no guarantee of victory.
