THE mystery surrounding the death of a Mpumalanga man, whose body was found on a small private road early this, month remains cause for concern for the local police because another body has been discovered in the same area.
In the latest incident a cattle herder called the police after spotting a body floating in a dam in Evander on Tuesday just soon 4pm.
Evander police spokesperson Constable Sibusiso Mbuli said the body might have been in the dam for several days because the man's face had been disfigured. His private parts were missing.
"We suspect he could have been thrown into the water after he was killed a few days ago," Mbuli said yesterday.
"We also believe fish could have eaten at his face and private parts."
He said the man was wearing a pair of jeans that had apparently turned white because of having been in the water for a long time.
Mbuli appealed to people who had a missing relative in the area to contact the police.
"The victim's body is being kept in the local mortuary and investigations are continuing," he said.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating the mysterious death of Peter Rampedi Molepo, 44, whose body, with plastic tape around the mouth, was found about 20m from the dam where the other man was discovered.
Molepo had left his home for work at the Tavistock mining company in the nearby Secunda on May 2 but had since not returned home.
His wife went to report him as missing on May 4 "when she saw days going by without his returning home".
Police, however, received information about a dead person on a small private road. The body had plastic tape over the mouth.
"A passerby found the body and we went there to investigate," Mbuli said.
The body was identified as Molepo's. He had worked as a boilermaker at a mine in Secunda.
"The circumstances around his death remain a mystery."
Sowetan has established that Molepo had been chased out of his house after his wife obtained a restraining order against him.
"He had been away for almost a month but his wife allegedly called him back, saying she had forgiven him. He stayed home for almost a week before he disappeared," said a relative who asked to remain anonymous.
