Youths collect shoes for pupils

YOUNG people are leading the High Praise Centre Church's school shoe collection and distribution programme.

YOUNG people are leading the High Praise Centre Church's school shoe collection and distribution programme.

The church is part of Benjamin Dube Ministries, which is headed by gospel musician Benjamin Dube.

Twelve schools in Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni will benefit from the shoe campaign, said Sibongiseni Phahla, spokesperson for the young organisers.

"We hope to collect new school shoes for primary school pupils in and around the Vosloorus area. Our target is 2000 shoes, but getting more would be a bonus," she said.

The youths have already spoken to local businesspeople to donate shoes .

Local radio station Kasi FM, Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation are supporting the campaign as partners.

A music show is being planned. To attend, bring along a new pair of school shoes. The handing over ceremony is due to take place on June 20.

For details call Phahla at 072-595-8400 or Ntombi Mthethhwa at 072-187-8965.
