Cosmos recognise top players

JOMO Sono decided to reward his players with end-of-the-season awards despite the team being relegated to the National First Division.

JOMO Sono decided to reward his players with end-of-the-season awards despite the team being relegated to the National First Division.

Sono said though the team went down, the players still deserved to be rewarded for their efforts.

"I know football experts and critics did not expect us to have these awards, but the players deserve them. There were games when we played really well and we were just unfortunate not to win them," Sono said.

He said there was interest in Bongani "Shuffle" Theletsane, Bamuza Sono and Thapelo "Chappies" Tshilo from Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and AmaZulu, but no offers had been made.

"There is nothing on the table. Sundowns came for Shuffle and ran away and AmaZulu also came for Chappies and ran away.

"I have given them until the end of the month and if there aren't any offers they will stay with Cosmos. They all have contracts."

Defender of the year: Ousmane Berthe (R20000)

Midfielder of the year: El Hadji Samb (R20000)

Players' player of the year: Avril Phali (R30000)

Most improved players: Bongani Theletsane and Thabiso Hlalele (R20000 each)

Player of the year: El Hadji Samb (R40000)
