TWO top officials at Cipro have been formally suspended over their involvement in granting a suspect R153million tender last year and the contract itself is in the process of being cancelled.
Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies made the announcement in Parliament yesterday after studying two separate reports into fraud and corruption at the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office.
Those suspended are chief executive Keith Sendwe, who has been on sick leave since January, and chief information officer Michael Twum-Darko, who was placed on "special leave" in March.
The two men played a key role in awarding the tender for an enterprise content management system to ValorIT, a little-known IT firm that won the contract ahead of more experienced companies.
The auditor general, who conducted one of the probes into the contract, recommended last month that it should be "reconsidered" due to tender process flaws.
A separate report by a private forensic investigation firm recommended that action should be taken against Sendwe, Twum-Darko, ValorIT chief executive Josias Molele and IT consultant Abe Mbulawa.
