Students get training to fight against Aids

THE Durban University of Technology is training students to educate their peers on HIV-Aids prevention.

Fifty students have been trained through the university's annual Peer Education Programme, Thobile Zulu, manager of the university's HIV-Aids centre, said.

The awareness messages are distributed at residences and throughout the university, which will be hosting the 27th International Aids Candle light Memorial at its Mansfield Hall tomorrow.

Zulu said the increasing number of students coming forward for voluntary testing proves that young people are keen to learn about the disease so that they can avoid contracting the virus.

"As part of the fight against HIV-Aids, we have reached an agreement with McCord Hospital to accept students for CD4-count testing and administration of antiretroviral treatment," Zulu said.
