NPA is already crumbling under Simelane

NPA boss Menzi Simelane's mission has been accomplished with the withdrawal of the case against Mulangi Mphego, the one-time crime intelligence head.

This was inevitable following the controversial removal of Gerrie Nel from continuing to prosecute in this case. Nel was seen as an obstacle. The NPA, under Simelane, is limping from one disaster to another.

As can be seen from the recent shenanigans in the NPA, more is still to come. The public must now brace themselves forthis institution to crumble.

The proper functioning of the criminal justice system and the NPA's independence are things of the past. It remains to be seen whether high-profile politicians will be prosecuted for offences. I doubt that.

If the Ginwala Commission's recommendations against Simelane were heeded instead of his being appointed, our justice system would have been spared this character.

I fully back the DA challenging his appointment and hope to see justice prevail at the end of the day.
