mourinho zeroes in on treble

ROME - With two down and one to go, Inter Milan are two-thirds of the way to a historic treble but Jose Mourinho isn't celebrating yet.

ROME - With two down and one to go, Inter Milan are two-thirds of the way to a historic treble but Jose Mourinho isn't celebrating yet.

Aware that the Champions League final is less than a week away, the manager was conspicuously absent during Inter's "scudetto" celebrations in downtown Milan late Sunday night.

"We're starting a historic week and I'm certainly not going to leave anything for granted," Mourinho said after Inter overcame Siena 1-0 to clinch the Serie A title on Sunday.

Having also won the Italian Cup, Inter are attempting to become the first Italian club to pull off the treble. Inter face Bayern Munich for the European title on Saturday in Madrid.

"We need to turn the page now," Inter president Massimo Moratti said yesterday. "We've got very few days to prepare for this match."

Mourinho's refusal to dedicate his future to Inter has increased speculation that he will leave for Real Madrid, and the coach touched on his love-hate relationship with the Italian game moments after celebrating his team's scudetto.

"It's not true that I've got one foot with Real or that I'm already the Real coach. I've given Inter everything I have," Mourinho said.

"Italian football is different. At times I haven't felt at home, in my natural habitat - which makes me work well.

"But when the time came to give my all I always gave it."

While Inter also won Serie A last year in Mourinho's first season in charge, this year's team really shows his mark.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving for Barcelona after last season, Mourinho brought in six key players who have redefined the way Inter play: Wesley Sneijder, Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito, Thiago Motta, Lucio and Goran Pandev. - Sapa-AP
