DURBAN'S street vendors are demanding a piece of the World Cup pie.
The thousands of vendors, represented by StreetNet International Council, voiced their concerns at the World Class Cities for All Campaign workshop.
They demanded, among other things, that host cities work with local vendor organisations during the games.
According to Fifa, trading will not be permitted in exclusion zones around the stadiums.
The vendors represent some of the poorest and most marginalised of the urban poor, according to Pat Horn, coordinator of StreetNet International.
"We are also demanding that the government set up street vendors' bargaining forums to develop policies to support vendors and provide them with social protections."
Durban vendors have mixed feelings about the World Cup.
Constance Cele, who trades on West Street, said she was not hopeful of making more money.
"I have decided to close my stall during the World Cup because I don't think I am going to make any money," she said.
Khethiwe Sibango, however, said she was optimistic. "I have been selling many scarves as it becomes colder."
