Downs want new blood

MAMELODI Sundowns will venture into the transfer market in search of more quality players to beef up the team ahead of their African Champions League campaign.

MAMELODI Sundowns will venture into the transfer market in search of more quality players to beef up the team ahead of their African Champions League campaign.

"We will be assembling a solid team to challenge for titles in the new season, both on the local front and on the continent," said Trott Moloto, Downs' interim coach.

"Charity begins at home - we need the kind of players who will help us sweep the board at home," he said.

"In addition, we must do well on the continent. It is important for South African teams to participate and do well in continental competitions and this will help Bafana Bafana a great deal.

"We are going to assess the performance of the club in the league and two competitions. We will also do an assessment of individual players and this will serve as a guideline for us.

"Obviously we are going to sign quality players, we want all the departments to have a bigger pool of players in case of suspensions and injuries."

The former Bafana coach was roped in as caretaker coach by club president Patrice Motsepe after the departure of Hristo Stoichkov in March.

"It is unfortunate that we did not win anything but I am happy with the contribution we have made in the few weeks we were in charge," Moloto said.

Moloto also revealed that various Absa Premiership clubs have expressed an interest in the likes of Koketso Mmotong, Thuso Phala and Robyn Johannes.

"We are talking here about players who did not get time to play in the past and it is good that all of a sudden everybody is saying nice things about them."

Now that the season is over, Moloto is going back to his position as Sundowns' technical adviser while the search for a permanent coach goes on.

"We need a coach who will take us to greater heights. It's all about winning titles at Mamelodi Sundowns," said Moloto, who is part of the team searching for a coach.
