THE median forecast from a Reuters poll is for retail sales to have grown by 0,4percent year-on-year in March after falling 1,5percent in February. This would end 13 consecutive months of annual contraction.

Forecasts of 10 analysts surveyed ranged from a contraction of 1,0percent to growth of 1,1percent. Stats SA will release March retail sales data tomorrow. Another negative number would confirm that consumers are still wary of spending after the recession cost a million jobs. - Reuters
