BONITAS Athletics Club has selected a star-studded team to compete in this year's Comrades Marathon in KwaZulu-Natal on May 30.

This year's marathon marks the 85th anniversary of the Comrades Marathon, which is taking place in May this year to accommodate the Fifa World Cup.

The world-renowned marathon usually takes place in June.

Bonitas has roped in South African athletics legend Joseph Ikaneng to manage their team, which includes former Two Oceans Marathon king Bethuel Netshifhefhe.

They also have Samuel Bolo, who fished 11th at this year's Two Ocean Marathon in March, Brian Zondi, Simon Mphulanyana and Farwa Mentoor.

"This is our strongest team ever to participate in this auspicious event, we are looking forward to doing well," Ikaneng, a three-time Comrades Marathon gold medallist, said yesterday.

l Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Helman Mkhalele will make his debut in this year's marathon.
