Buthelezi, Wiseman Mcoyi, Nhlanhla Khawula and Thokozani Zulu were expelled after a national council meeting in Ulundi on Sunday.
They were charged with bringing the party into disrepute by publicly campaigning for IFP national chairperson Zanele Magwaza-Msibi to lead the party after the next general elective conference.
Buthelezi, who is on maternity leave, was dismissed in absentia. She told Sowetan yesterday that she was still an active member of the IFP.
"I only heard (about being fired) through the media. Since I am yet to receive anything in writing, I regard what I heard as just rumours."
