EMMANUEL "Scara" Ngobese's brother, Thabani, last night confirmed that the dribbling wizard had died at Johannesburg's Charlotte Maxeke Hospital yesterday morning.
"Scara was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after collapsing at home. We rushed him to hospital because he was bleeding a lot.
"My brother had recovered after suffering from tuberculosis for some time. He was a different Scara and went to church regularly.
"He had also started going to gym and was planning to return to competitive soccer soon. We are all devastated by his death," Thabani said.
Wembezi Juventus coach, April "Styles" Phumo, who worked with Ngobese at National First Division side United FC, described his death as "a big loss".
"He had been sick for some time, but what a wonderful player," Phumo said.
Ngobese started his professional soccer career at Moroka Swallows where he became an instant hit.
He joined Thembisa Classic and later relocated to Durban where he played for AmaZulu. He returned to Johannesburg after being recruited by Kaizer Chiefs.
Ngobese, who featured once for Bafana Bafana, also represented Amajita.
Ted Dumitru, who won the league championship with Ngobese while coaching Kaizer Chiefs, said Ngobese was special.
"I coached him at Kaizer Chiefs. He helped us win the championship in 2004/05.
"He was loved by the fans because of what he did with the ball. I was convinced that Scara still had a lot to offer the game if he regained his fitness. My deepest condolences to his family."
Arthur Zwane, who played with him at Chiefs, said it was sad to lose a player of Ngobese's stature.
"I still can't believe that Scara is dead. I was looking forward to seeing him back in the national squad," said a sad Zwane.
