This comes after the provincial department of roads and transport resolved to rely on local taxi operators to ferry people to public viewing areas.
"The support for this purpose will be R25million, including contingencies," departmental head Ntau Letebele said yesterday.
The much-needed financial boost for taxi operators is scheduled for between June 11 and July 11.
Letebele said yesterday that 250 taxis would be accredited for each PVA and that the total number to be contracted, excluding those of the host, would be 1250 for the five PVAs.
But to qualify for accreditation the operators must follow certain guidelines.
"We expect operators to be taxi recapitalisation compliant and their vehicles must be less than three years old," Letebele said.
He said the drivers had to pass a visual inspection test, and their vehicles must pass a roadworthy test.
"Over and above that, operators must be properly licensed and registered, and also hold a valid operating licence," he said.
Letebele said other requirements included operators having a valid tax clearance certificate and the owner not having any outstanding traffic fines.
"Drivers must be in possession of a valid professional driver's permit and must be vetted by the transport department," he said.
According to Letebele a funding structure had been put in place in terms of which a taxi will be paid a base rate and a kilometre rate for distances operated.
The rates, he said, had been structured in such a way that those using bigger vehicles would not be paid similar rates to the ones using smaller ones.
"A 16-seater taxi will be paid R1213 a day and R1,69 cents a kilometre, while a 22-seater taxi will be paid R1508 a day at a rate of R2,21 a kilometre."
