Organised by Durban Black Drifters the event will take place at the Playhouse Opera in Durban tomorrow.
About 60 choirs from Durban townships will compete.
Durban Black Drifters leader Chris Ntuli said there would be cash prizes, trophies, certificates and computers to be scooped.
He said the festival was aimed at preserving, promoting and developing isicathamiya at grass-roots level. Groups such as Zulu Messengers, NBA Champions and Madala Kunene will entertain the audience.
People such as Joseph Shabalala of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Paul Mfuphi of the Cothoza Music Association, Pitika Ntuli, Cosbie Mbhele, Vera Dubin, Vusi Mkhize and Caroline Smart would grace the event.
"Over the past 10 years we (the Drifters) have been committed to making sure that isicathamiya does not die," Ntuli said.
Durban Black Drifters is one of the scathamiya groups that are better known internationally than in South Africa. The group has toured places such as France, Belguim, China, Norway, Japan, Canada and the US.
Having been in the industry for 30 years the group has worked with artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, both the late Jabu Khanyile and Sipho Gumede, Madala Kunene, Busi Mhlongo and Aerto Moreira (Brazil).
The group will be dropping its fifth album officially in July before jetting off to the US in August for a tour.
