SOUTH African cricket's poor form at World Cup events continued last night when they were bundled out of the ICC Twenty20 championship after going down by 11 runs to defending champions Pakistan.

Chasing a modest total of 149 for victory at St Lucia's Beausejour Stadium in StLucia, the Proteas simply never got going as they allowed Pakistan spinners Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman to dominate them.

It was the last-chance saloon for the Proteas after losing to England by 39 runs on Saturday, and they botched it.

Herschelle Gibbs was the first to go with his total on three and captain Graeme Smith followed shortly afterwards.

Next to go were Jacques Kallis (22), JP Duminy (3), AB de Villiers (50), Mark Boucher (12) and Johan Botha (19).

Pakistan built their innings around talented 19-year-old Umar Akmal, who hit an entertaining 51 off 31 deliveries.
