THE South African Under-20 women's handball team were beaten 25-15 by Mozambique in the final of the southern Africa qualifiers for the Challenge Trophy in Senegal.

Coach Shaun Mokhine's side struggled against the more experienced Mozambicans in Zimbabwe at the weekend.

Mokhine could not be reached for comment but South African Handball Federation technical director Guenter Schaefer said the team tried their best.

"It is unfortunate the team will not be going for the next round in Senegal in August because only regional winners will qualify," Schaefer said.
