Copper suspect nabbed

A MPUMALANGA man accused of stealing R25000 worth of copper wire appeared briefly before the Kanyamazane periodical court yesterday.

Solomon Nyaka has been remanded in custody pending his court appearance next Wednesday.

His case was postponed for further investigation.

KaNyamazane police spokesperson Warrant Officer Andres Skwambane said Nyaka was arrested at the weekend after community members accosted him and phoned the police.

"The residents accosted Nyaka after he was caught red-handed while busy cutting the electric cable at Themba Mashego's house.

"Mashego and his family were watching television when the electricity was cut off.

"When he went outside to investigate he found Nyaka rolling up the cable.

"When asked what he was doing, he did not answer but continued to roll up the cable.

"Mashego called community members who detained Nyaka and alerted the police," Skwambane said.
