Woman (24) dies in freak accident

A 24-year-old Mpumalanga woman has died in an accident in which her bakkie, a speeding BMW Cabriolet and another bakkie collided in Dwarsloop near Bushbuckridge on Saturday.

Thando Ngoza of KaNyamazane outside Nelspruit was apparently on duty when she got involved in the accident along the notorious R40 road between Bushbuckridge and Acornhoek at about 5.30pm.

Witnesses told Sowetan that the BMW overtook a number of vehicles as it approached an intersection and collided with a Ford bakkie before the driver lost control and crashed into the Opel Corsa driven by Ngoza.

"The young woman and the driver of the BMW were critically injured in the accident.

"A couple in the Ford bakkie was slightly injured. All were taken to Mapulaneng Hospital but Ngoza unfortunately died a while later," Inspector Donald Mabaso said yesterday.

The driver of the BMW was still in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Mabaso said the police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.

One of Ngoza's close friends, Ntombi Radinne, described her as a "cool person".

"I mean she was a very cool person, kind and so full of life," a tearful Radume said yesterday.

"I can't come to terms with the fact that she is gone and I will never see her again.

"We used to go out together and actually spent a lot of time with each other."
