Open to youths who are between 16 and 25 years and who uplift and empower their communities, the essay competition identifies and acknowledges the important role young people play in the lives of local communities.
Contestants must explain in 300 words how they are making a difference in their communities, either as individuals or as part of organisations. They must highlight significant contributions made towards community upliftment and development.
This nation-building partnership project of Independent Cash & Carry, SABC1 community development programme shift and independent television channel e-tv seeks to recognise, acknowledge and reward the imortant contributions made by young people in their communities.
Young Community Shapers Competition's national organiser, Sanet Yelland, said the prize money is valued at more than R25000.
"The winner will receive R60000 and the runner-up R30000, to assist their community projects. The remaining finalists will each receive R10000 and will be assisted with their community projects. All finalists will also receive product hampers," Yelland said.
The awards gala will take place in Johannesburg on July 27.
