But for the fourth time this season the home side conceded more than 50 points when being demolished 14-56 and earning the honour of becoming the first Super 14 team to lose 12 games on the trot.
It doesn't get any more comprehensive than seven tries to two and it left Lions coach Dick Muir scratching his head at the end of the game.
Once again it took the visiting side to Ellis Park less than five minutes to find the Lions scoreline and this time it was Blues' outside centre Rene Ranger who got over the whitewash.
Two tries by the enigmatic Carlos Spencer gave the small crowd of Lions supporters something to cheer about.
A constant thorn in the Lions side was the unerring kicking display by visiting Blues flyhalf Stephan Brett.
Missing just one kick at goal from 10 attempts, Brett walked away from the game with a personal total of 26 points that also included a try in the 16th minute.
Also getting in on the action for the Blues were tries by Alby Mathewson, Tom McCartney, Paul Williams and a late double by right wing Joe Rokocoko.
